Weber Parts Deals

I think Dave gets as much business as he wants. While deals like this probably cut into his demand to an extent, I still don't think he is hurting for business. I know he stopped making grates a couple years ago anyway due to cost of the round stock....didn't he???

Yeah, I guess because of material shortages? Could be mistaken.

right, I think he said that he could still make them, but the price he would have to charge would be way to high to make it feasible. I don't know if that has changed however. Maybe he can get the round stock he needs for a better price these days. I have a set of his on my Frankengrill as well. They are a step up from the 9mm chinesium grates.

I thought I saw he was back making grates. Maybe someday I’d buy a set of his grates and bars, but it’s hard to fork over the extra cash when I already have some really nice stuff at a fraction of the cost.

I do think I’ll be buying some of his stainless Z bars for a project a guy wants done.

The only thing comparable to what Dave makes are the Weber 9930 grates which are about $200 a piece these days before shipping.
I have some of those. They’re incredible. Side by side for $40 - hell even at $80, these 9mm grates from China are pretty nice. How the welds or fusing holds up is the wild card.

Does anyone have a set of Dave’s grates? I’m curious of the construction of them. If his crossbars are grooved for the bars to set in and then welded on each side/end? Because that’s a healthy amount of labor if that’s how he does them.

I have daves grates. They don't really show welds. I don't think he is doing standard mig or tig welding on them. I think it is a process where the current is passed through the joint and it causes the two bars to melt/fuse where they touch. I don't know the name for that process. But, they don't have the middle cross bar on them either, which I like a lot.

I've got his grates (though they're custom) on the Wolf. IIRC I even showed them to you when you were here last fall. I've not looked that close and I also doubt I could even tell. But honestly they seem solid enough to safely drive a tank over with likely having damage to the tank

IIRC it's called resistance welding.
