Weber Gas Grills Are Tops!

Thanks for posting Chris. Weber really hot the mark with the newer Genesis II and Spirit II grills IMO.

It is true that many of us in the gas grill section are pretty committed to what I call the "Classic Genesis" grills (Genesis 1-5, 1000-5000, Silver/Gold/Platinum). I am in that camp and agree that their simpler, more solid construction lends to greater durability than today's grills. I also really love the look of a Weber Genesis with stained wood slats. Compared to the new Webers it is a little like choosing between a vintage Jaguar or a new Lexis. Is one better than the other? Depends on what you want and your personal preferences.

So, I have room to appreciate the new Weber Genesis II and even Spirit II grills (not the current Summit:p...Let's hope they do something about that thing soon:rolleyes:! A Summit II????). I think that Weber made some smart improvements early on after the roll-out of the Genesis II and that it is now a stylish, really nice, well featured grill, especially the open cart models. I am glad to hear that testing results and actual usage confirms that Weber can still turn out a great cooking grill. That in spite of offshoring. Some also complain about the prices. Even though they are out of my league, I don't think there are any viable competitors that are charging any less. These new findings seem to support that the new Webers are a good value if compared to other new grills.

Jon I'm looking forward to the day when you (or Bruce or another of the resident rehab experts) can obtain a used genesis II for rehab and comparison. Based on my experience with my brother's genesis II i think it will be a favorable comparison.

Sometimes I wonder what the editors at CR are thinking, but not this time. Every time I go to Home Dumpo I go over to the grill section to see if there are any bargains I just have to have. I always look at the grills and I can truly see the value and quality in a well made grill and that's Weber. Like Bruce and others I
personally like older things that have been brought back to life, hence my newest grill is a 2007 E320 at 12 years old still looks and cooks like new.
Also looking forward to restoring as best I can my 1985 genesis 2.
