Weber Charcoal Baskets

I just stumbled across my original pair of Weber charcoal baskets. I have been using a couple of pair of SS ones but I would like to bring this old pair back to life. Any suggestions on how to remove the rust?

Wire brush on a dremel or something maybe. Honestly, I wouldn't worry one bit about the rust and just use them.

Pork fat hides rust pretty well.

Yah, I would just use them as is. Grinding off the rust is just going to expose fresh steel to more rust.

Leave them be, it will in fact last longer if you don't mess with them. I'm still sporting my original charcoal baskets from when I finished high school and got my first kettle grill... still using them today and its been 20+ years.

Anything you do to remove the rust will weaken them and cause them to rust faster. Just use them as is.

I painted mine with bbq flat black, they have been holding up even with half a dozen uses

I would refrain from using BBQ paint on any thing that goes INSIDE the cooking area on a grill.

I just did mine. I used a grinder with flap disk after taking them apart which takes 2 seconds with bending 1 tap with a pair of plyers.
