Water or ...???

Newbie to Smoking … Anyone tried Apple Cider Vinegar in the “water bowl” – or any other liquids? I’ve used ACV on the “gasser” to help achieve some indirect approach when doing a turkey breast on the rotisserie. Just wondered if it would work in my new 14.5 or if I should stick to just water (or nothing at all)? I brew my own beer … and as hard as it would be to sacrifice a home brew by not drinking it ! … however if the experts on this site say go for it I’m happy to give it a whirl. Any downsides to consider? Any particular meats / cuts that would work best if I tried a beer in the “water bowl”

Per the link:

Q: Does using a flavorful liquid instead of water in the water pan make a difference?

A: Most people report that using apple juice, beer, or other flavorful liquids in the water pan instead of water does not result in any detectable flavor being added to the meat.

I agree. Tried it and did not notice any difference. Save your beer for drinking.

yeah, just foil the water pan for ez clean-up.
skip filling it with anything.
if you wanna waste your beer, send it this way, i'll drink it ;)

and WELCOME to the forum Marnie!
btw, where's the ATL:confused:

I 2nd Jim, I know someone that could get rid of that beer for you. I think the ATL is Atlanta as their airport code is ATL.

Thanks fellas - I'll foil the water pan and drink the beer! As soon as I'm able to embed pictures I'll send you a cold one virtually! The ATL is Atlanta, GA - sorry 'bout that -

if you ever find yourself with some leftover wine ( I know, what is leftover alcohol?) you could use it up in the pan with water. I did an over-the-hill late harvest riesling in the pan to add to the water, doing bonein, skinon chicken breasts, and I thought it added a little sweetness. that was a straight low and slow that time, no smoke. At least my wife thought they were good, which is all that matters.
