Saw This On Our Short Vacation

My wife and I took a brief vacation and trip to South Central Indiana to visit her cousin where she sadly stays at a small nursing home specializing in care for patients with Huntington's disease. We decided to try out an "AirB&B" and were pleasantly surprised. An absolutely beautiful county location where the innkeeper has about 50 acres, 2 "adorable" Springer Labs, 4 or 5 outside cats, dozens of hummingbirds, and yes, even a few grills!

On her main deck which was available to us as guests, she had Dynojunker, but as I walked around the beautiful property (made even nicer by PERFECT weather) I stumbled across this interesting Weber:

I am not sure I really go for the red trim, but it was interesting to see a grill with it in person. This grill appears to just sit outside and obviously isn't babied. Yet, the painted trim seemed to be holding up. It was one more interesting thing to see when I really didn't expect to see much of anything.

The area we stayed reminded me a little of when we lived for a time in Western North Carolina. There was even a small waterfall and some rock outcroppings. Definitely NOT flat cornfields which is what I have generally seen when passing through Indiana. There WAS corn, but on rolling hills in between wooded areas. I wish we hadn't been too late to get some fresh!

Thank you for sharing some of your vacation pics with us. I'm sorry to learn of your wife's Cousin's illness; how nice of you to visit. That Weber reminds me of my wife's Ford Edge... it is black, and the interior is also black with red trim, lol. I'm not up on grills like you are but I've never seen one in that trim.

A little red kettle on the emblem could really tie that all together.

Yeah, the colors do look like a sporty vehicle combination. It actually is kind of a cool change from basic gray and black. And, yes, I hadn’t thought of it, but a red kettle would be a great final touch. Maybe some exotic colors would be a way to make one of these older grills more appealing to a younger generation?

Jon, did you by any chance notice if the red handle and other trim was painted red or were they solid red? That is very interesting....but like others said, it just doesn't really look right.

I am almost certain the handle, side trim, knobs and igniter cover were all painted. What isn’t known was when or how much - if any - use it has seen since being painted. It is still a little hard for me to believe you can really clean off grease, etc. from painted plastic. Brian in Atlanta mentions using the Rustoleum light gray that looks very close to the original gray for plastic parts. You sure can get a much fresher look that way, and painting something the same color as it originally was has less risk since a small scratch wouldn’t be obvious. Of course, I also see a lot of grills where changing parts to black would look sharp. I think the jury is still out on how well it would hold up.

Looks like a nice peaceful time. The weird Weber ehh not so sure but it is nice to have peace and quiet

Sounds like a very nice place to stay, pictures look great also. The grill, well to each his own I guess.

Hmmm, that gives me an idea spray painting the handle red...i think it will work, for those of you that restore to sell it might be a selling point...

To me it's always a nice surprise when we stay somewhere and there is a nice quality grill available to cook on. It's happened to us a few times too.

Love the pic of the dog with the tennis ball.

Love the pic of the dog with the tennis ball.

The two Springer Labs were named Thelma and Louise. I believe that is Louise who took a special shine to me because of my long patience for neck scratching and playing ball. My wife pretty much has us on a "No Pets" lockdown here, so I loved having all the innkeeper's animals fawning over me! If I ever get to live out in the country, I will have a minimum of one dog and one outside cat for myself.

I've not ever heard of Springer labs? Are they a springer spaniel / lab crossbreed?

Yes, the lady said that this cross is a recognized breed in the UK but not here. I don’t know a lot about dogs so first assumed they were just black labs. But I did notice they had a lot of white and even some spotted areas in their chests and legs. They were very active and the one “talked” a lot with whimpers and whines, but neither ever barked that I heard. I wouldn’t mind having one. Maybe someday!

I love dogs. Never been without one. To me they are literally one of the best things in life. And I've had some wonderful ones in my 59 + years.
