Refurbished My 2004 Genesis Gold C

I just completed the refurbishment of my 2004 Genesis Gold C. I've been lurking on this forum getting ideas, knowledge, and inspiration so thank you to all that post on here regularly. I was the original owner so I was able to get a replacement hood (the inside panel in the SS hood was heavily corroded) under warranty from Weber. I bought new burners, SS flavor bars, porcelain coated cast iron grates, ignition switch, drain pan, and front casters. Replaced the bolt that attached the fire box to the frame (used SS).

I painted the fire box and frame with high heat paint. I decided to jazz it up with some Hammered Metal Silver paint on the following areas: front panel (was SS), bottom panel (was previously black and a little rusted so I also drilled drain holes in it), the temperature control nobs, the plastic Weber wheel covers, and the push caps that hold the rear wheels.

I hope to get another 15 years out of this grill. I looked at getting a new one...but nothing beats the quality of these older Weber grills. Again, thanks to everyone for their ideas and inspiration. I never would have attempted this without reading all the posts on this forum.

Nice job. I am working on a Gold C just like that except mine has a the extra side shelf in place of the side burner. My bottom pan was toast so I welded in a couple angle iron cross members and used composite decking for the slats. I am waiting on getting the cook box back from the sand blaster and then I can paint that and finish it up.
So, when you got a new lid from Weber, they gave you a black ceramic coated lid instead of the Stainless steel one? Better choice anyway IMO. You did a great job on that grill for a first time rebuild. I like the bottom pan with the silver color.

Thank you, Bruce. They sent me the black ceramic one instead which I am very happy about since the stainless steel interior is what failed on the first one. It was very easy to deal with Weber. I contacted them via their website and included a couple of pictures of the corrosion inside plus a scan of my original receipt. Within a day or so I got notification that an order had been placed for me. The new hood also included new pins which was nice.

Thank you. It's Rustoleum Hammered Paint in Silver. Not sure if you can tell from the pictures but it has a nice texture to it.

I made one final tweak...the nuclear launch red button for ignition.

That is a beautiful restoration! I love the what you did with the bottom shelf. I also love the new lid; so much better than Weber's SS lids. That will certainly see you through another 15 years of service.

I'm surprised that nobody has told you yet that you need to get some 1.5" ribeyes on there! Looks nice, David!

Yah, a grill rebuild isn't complete until there is a big old ribeye sizzling on there.

Do you have a close up of the paint on the bottom panel. That looks very interesting.

Very nice work, always like seeing an old Weber brought back to life. I've had my 1998 2000 for 23 years and it's still in great shape.

I like what you did with the bottom, I just finished one that did not have a bottom, it was missing when I picked it up. I tried selling it naked last year but it was late and I never had a taker, decided to store it for the winter and try again. Ended up grabbing some angled aluminum and a piece of trex decking. I really like the way it turned out.2EA20AF1-C1DE-41C2-B4AE-9AE10A0F6521.jpeg

CWalker: How thick is the trex decking? How heavy is it and where did you buy it?
Painted or dyed knobs and end handles?

Bruce, I got it at Lowe's, it was $12 for an 8ft board which is about perfect, I had about 2" left over. It's 5/4 of an inch and sits flush. I painted the aluminum black and used self tapping screws to mount the brackets. I think it may be just a little bit heavier than wood but it's not noticeable. The knobs and handles are dyed.

Looks great. I do really like the Hammered Metal Silver paint. What brand is that?

That looks wonderful. The bottom shelf really helps. Great Idea on the angled aluminum and boards!

When you have it for sale, post the link if you would.

Hmmm. sounds better than the composite decking I used on the my current grill which was a bit over $30 for 12' and significantly heavier than wood. I got it at Menards. I did not see any Trex branded stuff there.
