I got my first kettle (if you don't count the Summit) last week when I found this on Facebook for $50. It looked like the ashes have never been cleaned out so I gave it a good cleaning. Added the slow n sear and the drip n griddle along with a new Weber grate. First cook was some ribeyes and then smoked some queso later.

Fine looking grill for $50! You did a nice job cleaning it up.

Some tips I have for that style; try to avoid picking up the grill with the plastic table. Eventually that plastic will snap. If you do want to upgrade in the future you can buy a metal table from Weber for about $99.

Also, if you haven't done so, at some point you might want to remove the bolts that hold the lid bale and the two bolts that hold on the gas assist. Over time those corrode and basically rot away, it'll create rust and it's a pain to remove them and the rust could spread. I always remove them and replace with new 1/4" stainless steel nuts/bolts/washers.

And another pretty cheap upgrade that I feel is totally worth it is a new lid bale...part # 65188. It is larger and lets the lid sit at a 90 deg angle rather than leaning in towards the grill.

I think the bottom wire rack on your grill is upside down. On the plastic end caps, the grooves/holes where the end of the wire rack stick into should be on the top side. The sides of the wire rack should angle down.

Wow, awesome tips on the replacement parts!

This is how they are, is this correct?

Patience certainly paid off with that score Tom! And the upgrades are nice-I found one like it a bit older for my son without the gas, and he may eventually go for that Weber replacement table as well. Terrific clean up too!

It is in the correct position in that picture, but all of those pieces actually slide into the end caps, none are supposed to lay on top like the U shaped piece in your picture. It's a bit of a paint sometimes. I screw in one side of the end cap totally. Then push the metal rack into the screwed in end cap side, then install the other end cap.

I'm sure they way you have it will last a long time, but I would just go a little crazy with ash and other stuff getting stuck in that U. :coolkettle:

I ordered a replacement table for my performer this week from Weber and got it discounted from $99 to $66 since it was registered. The “silver vein” metal replacement table is nice and sturdy and a perfect fit.
