Old Coals

Just finished my 3rd usage with WSM. First two times I didn't use enough coals, so this time I loaded up. Wow...temp stayed rock solid once that baby got going!

Now since I just had a rack of ribs and a couple of chicken quarters on there, I removed the meat and there's obviously plenty more fuel to go. So I shut the vents and the fire goes out eventually. Tomorrow there will probably be a few coals left that look like they can be used again....can they? Yeah I know I'm cheap, but I hate to waste anything!

Shake the ash out of the coals and use the whats left on the next cook. I wire the firering to the ash grate and that makes shaking the ash out of the coals easy once there cooled.

Thanks Jim....what type of wire do you use?

I shut down the all the vents. I then put some new charcoal in a Weber chimney and then add the old on top of the new.
