New Q1200 issues - any suggestions?

I live in Australia and just bought my first gas grill, a Weber Q1200, and am not sure if this is normal. So some advice would be great in case I need to swap it out.
(1) the burner flames closer to the gas inlet intermittently ‘rise up’ and extinguish temporarily. It just happens on one side (closer to me) and the flames come back. This only happens on the high setting. Wasn’t too windy at all when this happened.
(2) smelling gas every now and again, while the burner is on (whether lid open or closed).

I’ve used soap water on all connections and there are no obvious leaks. And I haven’t used it at all (it’s brand new) so can’t imagine there’s any issues with debris.

Pretty common honestly. If it has an adjustable air shutter you may need to close it down to perhaps compensate for your location's elevation (or lack of)

Also high pressure from a regulator can cause this, a natural gas set up won't burn properly on propane, orifices are a lot bigger, reverse and low flame. good luck let us know what your fix is

After you return it, buy a different one somewhere else from a different batch.
