Margaritas for a crowd

This is a simple recipe, but the use of fresh lime juice and not much more makes it great (IMHO). Lately, I've taken to adding the juice of one orange and skipping the Grand Marnier.

2 cups fresh squeezed lime juice
2 cups of water
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of tequila (I like Hornitos)

Optional: 1 cup of Grand Marnier

Make a simple syrup by Combining the sugar and water in a saucepan. Heat gently, and stir until the sugar is disolved. Let it cool for a bit, then combine the syrup, tequila and lime juice (and GM, if used). Shake and serve over ice.

I'm going to give this a try! I've been looking for a good rocks recipe.

I have an excellent frozen marg recipe, though.

I remember this recipe by thinking thirds.
1/3 tequila,
1/3 triple sec,
1/3 lime stuff that is half Rose's and half frozen limeade.

Frozen Margarita
---------------------

Recipe By: Bill Banick

Summary:

These ingredients are scaled for a blnder. You can make this mix in large quantities and then just add 1 1/2 cups to the blender per batch

Ingredients:

1/2 cup tequila, (recommended: white, and Sausa's white)
1/2 cup Triple Sec, (recommended: Bols)
1/4 cup Roses lime juice
1/4 cup frozen limeade concentrate, (recommended: Minutemaid)
ice

Directions:

Add the 1 1/2 cups of mix to the blender. Fill with ice and grind. After the ice is finished, additional cubes can be added to thicken the drink. You can *carefully* stir the added cubes to the blades with a non-metal spoon.

Oh, and it helps tremendously to have one of these:

And in case you hadn't noticed, this recipe scales very easily. So, what I usually do is buy a pile of limes, juice them, then use sugar/water and tequila amounts based on how much juice I get.

Fits perfectly in one 1G or two 1/2G empty milk jugs. You can make several days ahead of your party and they will stay good in the fridge. They are strong, so you should shake/dilute them with ice when serving.

You can freeze these and they will stay good for months.

I use the frozen jugs as ice blocks in a cooler when going camping or on a road trip. Then drink them at the destination.
  • 6 cups tequila (you'll need to buy two fifths for this)
  • 2½ cups triple sec (just buy one fifth, please)
  • 2½ cups fresh lime juice
  • 2½ cups fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups simple syrup
  1. Mix ingredients together in a large insulated container.
  2. Fill container with gallon Ziploc bags full of ice to chill
  3. When ready to serve, pour mixture into an 8-ounce glass filled with ice.
  4. Salted rim is optional.
  5. Makes around 20 margaritas per gallon.
