Genesis XXI (Jr) Restoration

I don't have any of those issues with mine but I can see why you would prefer the wire ones then.
Of course you don't have any of those issues with yours, just like you don't have any old grills with the usual rust problems we encounter here in the Midwest. Not to take anything away from your skills, which are top notch, but restoring a Genesis 1000-5000 to brand new quality in this part of the country is a pretty impressive feat at this point in time. Anything that could go wrong with a Genesis 1000-5000 grill over the last 30 years is something I've already dealt with multiple times. I still love those grills and still have one in unrestored but perfectly serviceable condition. I will always be here to encourage and advise anyone who undertakes such a project as I know you will be also.

If you do decide to do another first or second generation Genesis I'll always be happy to help you with any of the challenges that come along with it. If you don't need to because you found something you like as much or more without the challenges I'm truly happy for you. There are definitely a lot of different options in this hobby and different possible directions to go. Finding what you like and what makes you happy is a fun part of this journey.

The two burner grills have a hard time accommodating a single support as there’s no center valve to keep the support from sliding to the side.
Even the three burner grills would have been better off with two supports, but eventually if they are loose they fall off.
