“little hotter burn, or cutting back on smoke flavor”…this is the reason. Friend gave me a couple of the clear storage containers that were already mixed 50/50 with another brand of charcoal pellets and wood pellets. They worked fine with no noticeable loss of smoke flavor with my last few cooks. I would not go out of my way to use them. But $7 a bag it seemed like a solid buy.I've actually been using Traeger amongst Kirkland and Smokehouse pellets. I quit buying the pellets at Sam's. IDK if it's only my Club or if it's endemic to the brand they sell. But, their pellets are badly broken up to teeny tiny little bits, tons of dust and require either a lot of "sifting" (very tedious) or needing to completely empty the hopper, and go through all the trouble of vacuuming out the entire auger chute.
Though I also noticed the problem on those pellets I stocked up a while back at my local Menards.
So I've now been buying Bear Mountain branded, Kirkland, and Traeger and they're quite a lot nicer.
I've heard all the bad rumors about Traeger pellets but my experience and research shows them to be great quality. And I also found out they have their own production they're not re-selling something generic.
Re, charcoal pellets. I've found actual charcoal doesn't really have any "aroma" or "taste". Based on my experience when using lump coal to cook on my little kettle. Maybe pellets are different? But, I honestly don't see any reason to use them other than MAYBE a little hotter burn, or cutting back on smoke flavor
There was only half a pallet left. Not sure what prompted the sale. May run back tomorrow if Mardi Gras traffic is not to bad.Great deal! My local HD in north Texas does not have that sale going on.
Oh I know that. But, I can buy Bear Mountain at say Menards and the ones at Sam's and the quality of the product is vastly different with the Sam's bags being lots of sawdust and tiny pea sized pellets and the ones found at other places labeled as Bear Mountain (not Smokehouse) being solid nicely sized ones with little to now fines and tiny clinkers). Which is why I won't buy them there anymore and am sticking with different brands. That’s a great deal. I found two bags of “Smoky Woods” pellets at my local Ace marked down to $7 and bought both. The clerk said everyone wanted Traeger pellets instead.
Re the Sam’s pellets. I’ve not used them yet, but they look like a bargain. I asked Google who made them. Answer: “Smokehouse brand BBQ pellets sold at Sam's Club are produced by Bear Mountain Forest Products.”
