Doing basic quick refurb on Silver B

So some may recall back in April I managed to pick up a Green Lid Silver B with the 2 flip up tables. This is planned to be a birthday present for daughter's partner. Not going "whole hog" on it, but doing a decent clean and refresh. Won't be doing any painting. Just don't care to and don't think he'd appreciate the effort anyway. So today I disassembled. Got incredibly lucky and found the side bolt still "free" in the firebox. But, the nut was welded pretty good and the bushing on the exterior of the frame was shot. So I got a 7/16 box on the bolt and 7/16 on the nut side with my small Bosch Impact driver. Thankfully the Bosch had enough power to just snap the bolt off. I'll replace with SS and NeverSeize. Everything else is in great shape. Though, I did need to order burners, and a cover, and I will also need I discovered an igniter (electrode) box. I found Qulimetal 304SS burners $29 and a nice cover for $11 someone recommended. So all good in that dept.
I then went after it with the Sam's Club Grill and Oven spray cleaner. Pretty much melted everything right off.. No sign of Weber fade either. The whole thing is in really decent shape. I think because it was on a covered deck. Not going to do much else to it except put the new parts in, reassemble it and call it a day.

No need to go crazy. General cleanup, replace worn parts, test function and move on. I would spend more time on it if I was keeping it for myself, but not for a gift to someone who wouldn't appreciate my efforts anyways. Nice job and nice present!

Yeah. If it was for me. I'd likely do more and do some painting. Doubt I would go to the Jon or Bruce level. But, would do more than on this one

Nope. With the igniter and other than my time, only about $35. The regulator was missing on it as well but I have one I took off a Genesis I converted for someone that is like new. So that's a wash as well

That's a great birthday gift, even if they don't realize it's a classic. Maybe ten years from now they'll appreciate this beauty in green!

I hear what your saying Larry.

I did a very quick "freshen up" for one I gave to Brett for his son, but the paint was sooooo faded on the end caps I couldn't let it leave that way so I gave it a very quick dusting. Total time including "masking" off some areas with garbage bags was about 30 mins and less than half a can of paint.

That one looks a lot better, yet it wouldn't take much to make the silver areas on the cookbox and end cap black.

A nice grill, especially with the two flip tables - and even a green lid. My guess is it's a 2000-2002. That's going to make a really nice present.
I forgot to shoot a photo of the S/N on the panel. I will and post it tomorrow
I also have a brand new set of the stainless stamped grates. I got under warranty from my old Genesis 2 from way back in the 90s I never used

I may be in the minority on this, but I really like those grates. I have two sets of them ( three if you count the brand new set I put on my garage grill)

Wow, I didn't even know they were still made. He's not the cook many of us are. I would give him the rod grates I have from the Genesis I retired. But, nah, he would not appreciate the quality.
Besides it looks like I will be getting another Genesis myself soon. When we move my dad into the assisted living place, looks like I will take over his Genesis 2000 (converted to 3000) unless my sister wants it. Which would be ideal. She's been nursing a POS Ducane they bought (the rust bucket Chinese cheapo

Well it's finished. One thing I noticed is the Qulimetal burners while quite well made of good materials are a little on the short side. Oh, they work as seen in the photos but I would be more comfortable if they were 1/8 to 3/16" longer. I got an aftermarket igniter. Went right in, made as well or better than OEM and only $8.00
Put it all together and it lit on 2nd click. So since this weekend is his birthday weekend he can have a nice cookout.
A big thanks to Jon for the nice flavorizer bars. Saved me a few bucks and really made the finishing touches
