Dimensions of Genesis 1000 valve spring

Hey guys, I've got a member on email who's shy about posting this question. He's refurbing a Genesis 1000 and those springs inside the valve body are shot, rusted, don't have any spring to them anymore. He wants to go to McMaster Carr or similar and buy new springs but can't measure the size of his rusted ones. Anyone know the dimensions of these little buggers?

I may have some on an old valve body I have. But I have found on the old Genesis grills there are some variations. Have him at least send a photo of what he has or at least post it, Then I can check if what I have here could match up and either send them or t least guide him to the right things

Either that or go the old standby route and replace the whole valve or even manifold. I have a feeling that finding a replacement for those springs will be tough. Height, width, and flexibility (springability) will all matter.
But if he or someone else finds a commercially available replacement, I hope it gets posted here.

Bruce,

If at all possible would prefer to do it “on the cheap” . Checked my local buy nothing site on FB and came up blank. Weber has a replacement manifold at discount rate of $90 including shipping. Replacement valves cost between 25 and 36, I need at least 2 valves. need might go for the replacement if no springs as they have lost their compression.

Thanks

B

I will get some pics of my disassembled valves out in the next few days. Thanks B.

Barry, I might have a manifold I could sell you....or maybe just send the valves of one. PM if interested.

Pics of the valve parts, only one spring in three is complete.

Looks like it’s 1/2 “ x 1/8 “

Ahhhh, just pull the spring out of an old clicker style ball point pen and cut it to length.

I was kind of joking, but if the spring is strong enough, it looks about the right size. Some pens use heavier springs than others.

I’ll need two as springs shot on both, the only one that works is the starter. I’ll give the ball point springs a try and get back to you. Thanks
