"Breaking In" a newly-restored grill - seasoning the inside of the firebox?

I know I've seen this advice somewhere on this thread, but can't immediately find it.

When restoring a grill, some folks use a wirewheel/etc. to remove carbon and other gunk from the inside of the firebox. That leaves exposed metal, and I assume that exposed metal is prone to rust if it is not "seasoned" fairly quickly.

What is the proper way to seal this exposed metal? Spray all exposed inside parts (firebox, lid endcaps) with Pam and fire it up?

Thanks!

Yep, won't rust, but it can get some kind of white, spotty "scale" on it, not sure what it is. Spray with Pam as Dustin said then fire up the grill to bake it on

Yeah technically it will oxidize. I didn't spray mine with Pam, but it naturally built up a coating pretty quick. It's probably a good idea.
