Man, it's a hot one here in SoCal.

Staying inside with a cold beer and rewatching Longmire on Roku.

I’m confused. West Coast is American IPA. East Coast is Hazy IPA.
According to the interwebs, there is a difference between a 'traditional' IPA, West Coast IPA, American IPA, New England IPA, and a Hazy IPA.

To further muddy the wort, there is even a sub-category for a San Diego IPA (the ground zero for the IPA craze).

There is quite a bit of overlap between them all and I cannot even begin to explain the differences - I need to train harder and do more research first. I'll get back to you all later on that. ;)

Anyone ever try a Indian Pale Ale from England?
That is the original and very hoppy. I guess they made them that way to last for the long boat ride to India.
My neighbor is from there and he brought some for me to try.
Totally different from our IPA's.
I was not a fan.

That's reasonably accurate. Hops are also a preservative as well as a flavoring agent.

Try an English dry cider. Absolutely zero residual sugar.

Our favorite was the 250 KWh West Coast IPA (the name is supposedly how much energy is in a typical bolt of lightning) - enjoying that now

Went to BNS Brewing in Santee, CA yesterday - Western themed layout and draft beers (they also distill bourbon and vodkas on-site)

We got a flight to try their beers: Gunfighter Golden Ale, Flintlock Pale Ale, Derringer Session IPA, Revolver WC IPA, and Delusions of Grandeur IPA

They also have food on site; mostly sandwiches, sliders, and salads; we got the smoked turkey w/ bacon on rye and some smoked tri-tip sliders.

Came home with the Delusions of Grandeur IPA - enjoying that now.

Got a flight to enjoy - went next door to the deli and ordered a hot pastrami sandwich to have with our beer.

Came home with Everything's Jazz WC IPA as our favorite - enjoying that now on the back patio

Not too long ago I was in an upscale grocery store (Fresh Thyme, for those of you in Chicago and Milwaukee) and every one of the individual (1 can) craft beers was an IPA. Every. Single. One. Not an APA, a Scotch, an amber or a stout in sight. Now I don't mind a few hops now and then but that was just ridiculous. Ticked me off pretty good, actually.

Highly hopped brews have been in high demand for some time, to the point that nothing more than hop water, just hops and water, are getting produce. And while I do occasionally enjoy a pale ale, or an IPA, it's not always, and I have not cared for any of the hop waters that I've tried.

Fortunately, the local tap room does a darned good job of always having something on tap that I do enjoy.
 
Overlooked and underappreciated is the magical ingredient of yeast for beer.

Take the same formlation for a beer and only change the yeast and you can get a completely different tasting and looking brew.

Same for hops. There are so many different variations and combinations of hops - the resultant beers are endless in profiles and enjoyment.

I used to love sweet ales and light pilsners/lagers - they just don't appease the palate anymore, to me.
