Mind you, all of these observations are all off broadcast. I may have to go looking around for more of it. Thus far, I've watched just a couple of minutes of curling, we've watched the opening ceremonies, and are watching some of the men's luge.
Honestly, the production really is just plain stunning. Modern high definition recording is good to start with, but holy cats, the modern tiny cameras and flying mechanicals are amazing. Being able to literally follow a sled down the track is a new experience, and the flying cameras, while they do appear in a lot of the more stationary camera sweeps, are small enough that it almost looks like a bug in the air.
Edit: Something else I'd intended to comment on and managed to lose that train of though. The venue lighting is pretty darned good. Modern LED lighting is powerful, (relatively speaking) energy efficient, and gives the designers unparalleled flexibility compared to incandescent, mercury vapor, sodium and older stuff. Compared to years past, I see the entire luge track being evenly lit without major shadows. I'd hope this is working to the athletes' advantage as well.
Visually, these broadcasts are a treat. You can see details that just have not been visible before. The nerd in me is wondering how many terabytes of video are being captured, if not petabytes.
