1st Attempt at Tri Tip

Our local grocery store (Food Lion) had tri tip yesterday. It was pre marinated and seasoned, but around here, finding tri tip at a grocery store is like finding a unicorn! I got 2 of them and hurried home to fire up the little smoker. Cooked @ 250°-260° for about 2-2.5 hours until it reached 140°. Then I did a quick sear on both sides.. I have to say, all the great posts about tri tip are true! This is a fabulous cut of meat that all of my family loved!
Thanks for looking,
Tim

Glad you finally found one to try, Tim, and it looks like you treated it perfectly! Hope this is one of many! :)

Yep, TTs are great, yours look perfect. Used to find them all the time in the marked down section of the meat dept., but now they are no longer showing up. With the exception of Costco I never see them anymore.

Looks great Tim. That guy looks like a really good size. Tri Tips are plentiful in this neck of the woods, but it's difficult to find a good one that's over 1 1/2 lbs.
