New Toy

Did our first cook with our new Instant Pot last night. Talk about being totally impressed, did a couple of chicken thighs with an apple cider and chicken broth base. Total cook time was ten minutes on steam and 10 minutes of natural release and they were done to perfection.
Great flavor, can’t wait to try some other recipes. This might put my AKA Weber crock pot into retirement.

Great looking plate, Rich! I've been on the fence about getting an IP, you may have pushed me off the get one side.

On another note, when I saw New Toy, I thought you had fired up the you know what for the first time. :p

We haven’t pulled out the crock pot in a long time since we purchased an Instant Pot. Tried a turkey that had been in the bottom of the freezer for quite some time and that was quite the experience but turned out amazing according to the family.

On the other toy I'm waiting for the new legs with casters gets here so I can install those. The thing is a bear to move with the straight legs and no casters with my back and the arthritis in my wrists it's also quite painful. The thing weights 130 pounds empty and add another 20 lbs. of pellets, it's a load.
Dan who also has one told me that the break in produces a lot of smoke from the oils they put on it so I'll wait for a day with a good breeze before doing the burn.

That looks awesome, Rich. I got an IP for Christmas and so far have only done Zuppa Toscana (link below). It came out really well. Admittedly, you certainly don't need an IP to make it, but it made quick work of cooking the potatoes through.

I'll be getting rid of at least two "uni-taskers" as a result of the IP.

Thanks for the recipe Jim, I printed it and will add it to my growing list of must try recipes.
With the new IP we have five slow cookers now, time to trim down the herd.

Rich, you will come to love it. My DW is mostly in charge of ours. She has a couple of favorite sites for recipes:

We will never make risotto or lemon curd again without using the instant pot. We have a Meyer lemon tree and make a lot of lemon curd. it feels like cheating making it in the instant pot and we could not tell the difference between a batch made in it vs. one made using a double boiler.

Also, America's Test Kitchen just released a Mediterranean intstant pot book and the one recipe we tried so far is a winner.

Yesss the Instant Pot is awesome! There are so many good IP recipes out there on the internets now too.

I love that, when making a pot roast, you can brown your roast in IP, and of course the biggest advantage is the speed. Enjoy!

Thanks for the links J haven't picked up any books yet, still surfing the net looking at the gazillion IP recipes. If the next few recipes come out as good as the first I will be in love with that IP.

I need to get the test kitchen book as well as others.
Anybody have a fool proof method for pot roast?

Dislike for uni-taskers has kept them to a minimum but there will still be some cleaning now that this IP is in the house.

Daughter and SIL recently got an IP.
SIL is not a cook, that's putting it mildly, but he made cheesecakes for TG and Christmas in the IP that were outstanding.

Bob. I think this is going to be a great tool to have, it's fast and you can pretty much do anything from searing to slow cooking with it.
If your thinking about one here's a link to Target. The six quart is what we have and it's on sale for $69 vs. amazon at $79.
I wasn't biting on all the hype that was out there, but now that I have one I think it was more truth than hype. There is thousands of recipes on the net and the reviews generally are outstanding on 90% of them.

Thanks Rich!
I was researching that model and saw Target has it for that price, and available at a nearby store.
No longer on the fence. :)

I love the IP cheesecake. And simultaneously making a meatloaf and mashed potatoes (well, partially simultaneously). And the ability to brown meat and then complete the cook in it :)

Welcome to the world of IP, you're going to love it. Tomorrow Barb and I are going to do a slow cooker recipe to see how that works out.
