Thermocouple Choice

Both are acceptable choices for the pit probe. Right type, right connector, with a cable that looks like it won't melt (there's no specifications on the cable max temp so it is hard to say). My Dad's setup uses an alligator clip probe like that and he clips it to the dial thermometer shaft in the lid.

Thanks, that's great. Those are really inexpensive and I didn't know if they were suitable. I'll get both and see which works best for me. My current Wireless thermometer doesn't have the alligator style clip, and that looks like it would be handy.

Is this thermocouple an acceptable choice for the grate probe?

There is this alligator version too:

The thermoworks arent prohibitively expensive.

I had some noise on a cheap thermocouple, before switched to better. Why? Dont know. I live near a high voltage powerline. Moisture in insulation? Poor weld of tip? Poor quaity wire? But better thermocouple was less noisy for sure.

Auberins.com have some quality thermocouples for reasonably low prices. Stainless jacketed etc. I would buy from there before I would just pick some stuff off of Amazon. they have all the types magnetic, great clip, spring clip, alligator clip etc
