I disagree, the coals look too spread out. I think the circle you see is from the gourmet bbq system grate.
My question is, why have that kind of fire for steaks??

Well, I've been considering reverse searing steaks on my offset stick burner. Smoke the steak in the cook chamber, then move over to the grill grate in the firebox to sear directly over wood flame. Not sure I want a fire that big, however.

Kolmans fire does look like a grease fire or using some kind of accelerant, but I would not want a steak seared over that type of fire.

I'm not familiar with the charcoal Summit, is there enough room for wood splits ?
 
What is the latest info. on fires in grills? I thought it was suppose to be bad for us.
