Barbecueing 1800 chicken halves in Texas


 
So in Belville, they sell the yardbirds to raise money for the Vol Fire Dept ? Or is just a big community feast ?

Googling tells me its both ......... its another version of a pancake breakfast to raise money

That’s an amazing operation! They have three very large pits. Enjoyed the pictures and videos of the operation.

I like the complaint that "the pits only hold 900 birds". A number of municipal/county parks in Texas have pits like these installed permanently for just this sort of occasion. Might go back to the huge LBJ barbecues where they would dig trenches to cook thousands of pounds of meat.

Yes, that is funny, just 900 birds.
 
Those remind of the annual church chicken dinners out on the Leelanau Peninsula, north of Traverse City, MI. It's been decades since I went to one, their direct fired grills would do a few hundred birds at once.
