Thru bolting manifold support bolts

The thumb bolts/screws that hold the manifold to the firebox on my Genesis 2 quickly broke off during disassembly.

Heat/pb blast/vice grips did not help either. I started to drill thru the broken off bolt and I believe the bit is starting to walk into the soft aluminum.

Has anyone blown through these holes and used a nut/bolt in lieu of tapping the firebox for new threads? I can't see any adverse effects but figured it would be worth asking.

Yes it's exactly what I do. Just use a couple 1/4" X 20 carriage bolts and nuts in stainless steel

Yep, make sure you get some stainless bolts to replace them. They should be the size larry mentioned and 2" long. I dont think those original bolts were ever supposed to get "frozen" in the fire box. I think they were loose bolts when the grill came out of the factory, but they wind up getting frozen into the cook box over the years. Anyway, yes, just replace them with Stainless Steel bolt.
