New Wok

As noted in my Chicken Stir Fry post, I needed a larger wok, and got a nice 16" carbon steel one. Instead of showing pictures of a cook, I have some pictures of me seasoning the new wok.

Getting everything ready for the process

With the vortex upside down about half full of charcoal, it's a perfect fit.

I left it on the heat too long in a couple of positions and ended up with some flaking which I believe can be seen in the above picture. I scraped/brushed those areas down and took it back out with some scrap food (mostly vegetable peels) to fix those spots, but didn't end up taking pictures that round.

I like the use of the vortex for wok work! Very wise!
One more thing one can do with the kettle when you put up your mind to it!

Speaking of stir fry, did you guys meet the What A Wok product? It's basically a bucket-size cooking device, made right for wok cooking. I got one about a year ago and I'm in love with it. Previously I was also doing stir fry over a Vortex, but this bucket is more convenient, needs very little charcoal, gets ready to cook it 5 mins and looks really cool too.

I'm not related to the product or the seller, and I paid full price for it, but I feel I had to add this part as above I really sound like an advertisement :D

I never heard of it until you mentioned it. I don’t think it’s sold in the US. Looks cool! You should share some pictures of you cooking with it.

Kristof, that looks really cool! I’ve seen that kind of “furnace” available somewhere but, can’t remember where, it may have been on a Thai cooking site?
