Using both a 14.5 and 18.5 Charcoal Chamber for Fuse Method

I currently use heavy duty "kiln bricks" when I want to use the "Fuse Method" in my 18.5 WSM. I do this as it is easier (for me) to stack the charcoal higher and it does not fall down in the middle.

I do wonder if the bricks are both good and bad? (1) They do a great job of absorbing and retaining heat. (2) But I wonder if they are absorbing heat that I want going into my meat? No clue really....

My real question is whether anyone puts a 14.5 CHarcoal chamber inside an 18.5 one to make stacking charcoal for "The Fuse" easier?

I think I am just OCD.... :)

Thanks for any thoughts on this subject...

Dave
