IR Thermometer on the Griddle

Does anyone here use an IR Thermometer (non-contact model) to track surface tempertures on the surface of the griddle?

I'm still somewhat un-experienced with griddle cooking and was wondering if tracking surface temps is needed while griddle cooking.

Yes, all the time. I use my IR on my griddle when I mak smash burgers as I want to make sure the griddle is at or above 425° before I place the meat on it. I also use my IR when using my plow disc woc since I’ve found just a few degrees can make the difference in a super easy clean up or lots of scrubbing. My IR thermometer has become a valuable tool in my cooking arsenal.
Hope this helps,
Tim

Good to know Tim. I don't have one but your comments show me the reason to go out and get another gadget :D

Hmm... I've never gotten into the griddle thing because I've felt like at that point you are just cooking outside. However, when you say there are gadgets involved then you have my attention.
