Can anybody tell me about the Genesis 500?

There is an ad for a black top gray wood slat three burner grill I noted. Price is high, even though it does look nice, but it has been coming down. It is advertised as a Genesis “500”. I know almost nothing about this model, except that perhaps it was a lower cost “entry level” grill and maybe the first to feature a single row of flavorizer bars.

I noticed Dave’s post about a lid not being interchangeable between another below 1000 number grill he was working on.

Anybody know more about these? Would interchangeability issues make them something to avoid?

Sorry the Spirit 500 lid (endcaps and all will NOT fit on a full size Genesis 3 burner). The 2 burner grill is WAY smaller front to back than the 3 burner so a 500 lid would be too small by about 3 or 4"

Dang it. Thats what I get for posting when I roll out of bed. I tried to correct it, and deleted the whole thing.

Lets start over.

Jon, the grill advertised is not a 500 if it is a 3 burner. The 500 is a 2 burner Spirit, and as Larry pointed out the
2 burner lids will not fit a 3 burner grill.

The lids for the 700 and 900 will fit on 1000 series grills. However, they must use
the same series of end caps. In other words, 1000 end caps will not work with a
700 or 900 hood. The 1000 hoods are a little taller.

Actually the very early versions were called Genesis 500 I used to have one clearly labeled as such

This is the grill I was referring to:

It looks like a 1000 just missing its fold-down table to me, but this second picture might support that it has just one row of flavorizer bars. Hard to say:

He is asking $100 which is too much for me, but I have never seen a “500” (or 700/900) advertised before. I was just hoping to learn a little more. Thanks for the feedback, guys! There is always another little twist in the Weber story to learn about.

Yah, I don't see anything that would tell me that is not a Genesis 1000. The swing table is just missing, but it clearly had one. The slide rail is still there.

$100, heck no. Max I would pay for that is $50 and unless I was desperate, I wouldn't even give that.

Definitely a 1000. It even has a few of the N/S flavorizer bars. Clearly needs lots of work
but is worth buying at the right price. Ol' Marcell needs to get his thinking right though.
Point out the rusty grates, and missing side shelf. Ask a couple questions that you know
are likey negatives - do the front wheels roll? Does the igniter work? Then offer him $25.
