HeaterMeter changes from 4.0?

I'd like to get back into smoking after a long hiatus. I had built and used a HeaterMeter 4.0 many years ago which worked fine, and I just powered it up and upgraded the software and it looks like everything is running OK. I see that HeaterMeter is up to version 4.2 for the original raspberry pi. What are the major differences that I would be missing out on by running the 4.0? Also I see that most people are now using damper/fan combinations instead of just a fan like when I built the unit -- is there a way that the 4.0 can support a damper? Thanks.

4.2 introduced better noise filtering on the probe inputs, voltage vs pulse mode for the blower, a thermocouple board option and the rj45 jack that provides power and signaling for both the blower and servo. I'm sure there's more things added I've missed.

You can use the v4.0 board with a servo, it requires adding some wires to tap into the power and signal lines.

See here for more info: https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/Servo-Mode#quick-setup-hardware-v40

Thanks, so I am unclear from that but is the 4.0 board then capable of controlling both a servo and a fan if I were to add those wires or is it either/or? Thanks.

Adding those wires will give you the ability to power and control a servo. The fan will still be powered from the on-board port. You'll also want to run the latest heatermeter software on the SD card. You can get that here: https://heatermeter.com/dl/
