Adapt-a-Damper - how to page?

Hello from New Zealand!

(I'll preface this entire message with "I apologise if I've missed the obvious!")

I'm very excited to say that I've just purchased the heatermeter-4.3 kit (with thermocouple) to assemble & attach to my kamado-joe classic II - I can't wait to dig in!
I love tinkering with things but have a natural phobia of soldering - so I'm using this project to conquer that fear with the added benefit of some delicious meat at the end :p

I've read through nearly all of the HeaterMeter github page, and although quite daunting it looks quite doable (...I say nervously) and the instructions are quite clear.

After I had read through the github pages, I popped into this forum and suddenly was inundated with "dampers" and "adapt-a-dampers" and the likes - which sounds nice and I think I can understand the "why" ... i just can't seem to find the "how".

So, would any of you kind peoples in here point me to a 'how-to' page for a damper and how I would connect it to the Heatermeter?

I like the look of the Adapt-a-Damper, but can't seem to see how to attach that to the HeaterMeter, or when in the construction to fit it. (I'm sure it will become more clear when i start constructing it though, once it turns up in the post)

Thanks in advance for your time!
Jeremy

You're on the right track. All the Dampers here have a LAN plug on then, and they just need to be wired up as noted above.

Pin 3 = Servo 5V
Pin 4 = Ground of Servo AND Fan
Pin 5 = Fan +12V
Pin 6 = Servo signal wire

The damper is then connected to the HM with a CAT5 or CAT6 type LAN cable.

ahh yes lovely lovely. Apologies, another nub question incoming!

I like the idea of having the cat5 female plug on the server/blower unit - easier to store the device and for wear-n-tear etc

Do I need a particular PCB for that?

I can't see any description of that in these pages:
https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/HeaterMeter-4.3-Hardware
https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/Blower-and-Servo-Wiring
https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/HeaterMeter-4.3-Base-Board-Assembly
https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki/HeaterMeter-4.3-LCD-Buttton-Board-Assembly

Or is this implied knowledge and I'll work it out when i get there? (which I'm ok with! I haven't actually started assembling my goodies yet :p )

Excitably yours,
Jeremy

Here's the jack that i mean:

Nope, no PCB needed, just a Keystone style jack that you "punch" the wires into. The jack snaps into the unit. The box on the damper is just a place for all the wires to live out of the way.

Well, you guys are amazing then... Haha

I have more questions but I think I'll hold off till I have the goodies in my warm greasy hands!

Thanks all :)
