Looking for recommendations for books focusing on smoking meats, not really looking for recipe books as I can get all that on here. More along the lines of preperation, selection and recommended smoke times/types. I've got pieces off here and have done well with a few exceptions <mussels and ham gave me fits>. I would really like to try a brisket flat but have been too afraid to. Bassically what you would get out of a smoke class without the 400 dollar price tag. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

I liked Franklin's book the most - I can't seem to find the list of books on this site. I have a stack of BBQ books (last weekend while thumbing through the few (~20, only 1-2 were bbq) cookbooks I still have upstairs, my cousin's wife asked if I'd leave my cookbooks to her if I met my unexpected demise).

Weber's big book of burgers, Raichlen's Smoke, Weber Puts out some good cookbooks with Jamie Purvaince. I got an old used book from Jack Daniels (bbq).

If you're into grilling too and you like Mexican food, I have 3 from James Peyton: El Norte: The Cuisine of Northern Mexico

Aaron Franklin's book is very interesting and informative but I'm not sure that's what you're looking for. I recommended "The Science of Great Barbecue and Grilling" by Meathead Goldwyn to relatives getting into BBQ. It is also very interesting and informative but I think it covers the areas you want in more detail. You can look it up on amazon and read some of it.
