Hey guys! New member here, just bought my first "real" grill. I got the Genesis II E-310. Broke it in last night with a tasty rib-eye and some fresh zucchini from my boss's garden.

What do you guys recommend for a cleaning brush for the porcelain cast iron grates? I was looking at the Char-Broil Cool Clean nylon brush, is it any good?

Also, my house has a bulk propane tank and I have a quick-disconnect on my back patio for it. What do I need to hook my grill up to the bulk tank? Just a long enough hose with a 1/4 NPT male disconnect on one end?

Thanks guys!

Kevin

Re, the bulk tank. Is the gas distributed to your house in a regulated or unregulated state? If regulated than you simply can use the natural gas hose kit to hook your regulated gas directly to the manifold and you're done.
Much debate on here about grill brushes. Many feel they're dangerous because bristles can be left behind on the grates and be ingested with the food. While I have heard of this I have never seen it. Though I do follow the brushing with an oil soaked side towel to remove any debris and season the grates. Some like the wooden paddle. I tried it found it a waste of time. I do have one of the "cold" brushes. It does "work" after a fashion but nowhere near as well as a good hot brushing with a HIGH quality brush. I personally have great luck from a company called Libman. They make high quality made in USA brushes and I have never seen any sign of bristle shedding from one. YMMV.
Good luck

Congrats on the new grill. New or old Weber makes a great grill.

I'm a confirmed believer in grill cleaners without bristles. I have round stainless grates and use the chargon cleaner but it only works on round grates. The problem i see with the nylon brush is you can't use it when the grill is hot. I think that would decrease the effectiveness?

I haven't tried it but this one looks promising:

A couple of other options:

I have this one and it works reasonably well. It doesn't do the best job really getting heavily carbonized food off the grates, so I just picked up this guy to have if needed:

I would have given it a try over the weekend, but it never stopped raining! Maybe later this week.

Yes, my bulk tank is regulated.

I like that one quite a bit.

I'd like to avoid the brushes that have the fine little bristles that can come off.

FWIW I have never seen a bristle come off but apparently it CAN happen. However IMO nothing cleans up better than a good brush so I do simply follow up with an oil soaked side towel which cleans off any left on residue and oils the grates. Also another cleaning trick I use if something is really baked on is I use a water soaked side towel or soak the brush in water and the steam blasts the crud off.
One thing you NEVER want to use is crumbled up foil to clean the grates. That DOES leave little bits of foil behind and the result is VERY VERY unpleasant (go ahead ask me how I know) :D
