Painting inside of SS hood?

I have that stainless steel hood which looks really shabby inside. The inner liner is partially rusted, has several shades of grey to black. I wonder if that could be painted with rust resistant paint or if that approach would just be too toxic and emitting fumes whenever the grill gets heated up going forward.
 
Thanks guys. Thought so too. I just wanted to confirm. One just has to smoke enough to get it black again. ;-)
 
Just take the silly thing out. Worst case is the lid gets a blue tint. You can polish that off time to time
 
That is another option. I have not thought about that. But I am concerned damaging the outer skin when cutting inner liner out around the welds.
