Dogs will be dogs

A man comes home from work one day to find his dog with the neighbor's pet rabbit in his mouth. The rabbit is very dead and the guy panics. He thinks the neighbors are going to hate him forever, so he takes the dirty, chewed-up rabbit into the house, gives it a bath, blow-dries its fur, and puts the rabbit back in its cage on the neighbor's back porch, hoping that they will think it died of natural causes.

A few days later, the neighbor is outside and asks the guy, "Did you hear that Fluffy our rabbit died?"

The guy stumbles around and says, "No.. umm.. no.. I didn't. what happened?"

The neighbor replies, "We just found him dead in his cage one day, but the weird thing is that the day after the kids buried him in the backyard we went outside and someone had dug him up, gave him a bath and put him back in the cage. There are some real sick people out there!"

Sometimes the coincidences we encounter during out lives are amazing. I heard this joke years ago and it became one of my very favorites. I don't have a great recall with jokes but this one stuck. So here we are, some 25 years or so later, and I was sitting around my grilling area with my son and grandsons last Sunday. We were talking and having a good time and out of the blue my son asked if I remembered when I told him the dog and rabbit story? We all got a good laugh. I told that joke to my son when he was a little boy, I told it like it had just happened to me. I put myself in the roll of the neighbor and said I caught our dog walking up the lane with the dead rabbit. We have a neighbor on the far side of our back pasture and he became the rabbit owner. He thought it was hilarious and he told all his friends. I don't think I fessed up right away that it was only a joke. Thanks Bob.
