Ham glaze substitution

Are you trying to avoid the alcohol or just the bourbon? If the latter, I'd think rum, brandy, or cognac would be fine. If the former, I'd go with apple or orange juice. It won't taste the same but it should be okay. One online source suggested using vanilla extract, though I'd go with maybe 2 tsp. and maybe make up the difference with water if you have to. Come to think of it, most any dark soda -- Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, RC -- should also work well.

Thx. I don't routinely drink whiskey, or similar, so I'd rather not purchase it for such a small glaze recipe. Plus, if I did buy some I'd probably drink it just because it's here, lol.

If you want to use the whiskey, many liquor stores will have those airline bottles behind the front counter. Just about the right amount for not too much money.

I try to keep an airline bottle or two on hand just in case the jug is dry.
The old “in case of emergency...” thing.
