Do newer WSM's have sections that lets rain enter?

I have an early model 18.5" WSM. The lid fits down into the rim of the midsection such that rain runs down the lid, into the midsection and down the inside of the smoker. I wonder why they didn't design the lid to fit over the midsection? I think the midsection also fits down inside the bottom which can allow rain to get inside.

I'm considering getting a new 22.5 WSM. Did they change anything about how the top sits on the midsection?

This has not changed with the newer models. The dome still fits inside the middle section. I would say get a cover, but the Weber ones leak. I store mine inside but before I had a shed I found a heavy duty 55 gallon trash bag did the trick for the 22.5.

I would like to highlight this part from the FAQ:

store the cooker with the middle cooking section turned upside down

Having no shelter to stuff the cooker in, I always do that and works just perfect!
