Beef on the Cheap

Seems like SoCal is getting some good deals these days.

Got 3 pounds of choice Tri-Tip after trimming. Not bad.

the west coast always seem to get Tri tip for super cheap (~$2/lb). I've got it from Restaurant Depot anywhere from $2.66 (once) to >$6/lb, it's worth it even at the high end. Nice find.

It seems to be a 3 week cycle (or so) of special pricing with Albertsons & Vons (Safeway). Stater Bros does it too, however they sell select grade.
My local CAB grocery is getting very competitive also. $2.88/lb is kinda new - but I'm good for it.
I've found that after trimming one can add/estimate $2/lb to get the "real" price for trimmed Tri-Tip.

They are very rare around here except for Costco. The last 4 or 5 I found were in the dog food section of the meat department (close out section) at 1/2 off or more, usually around $2.00 a pound. Not big sellers here.
But when I see them I buy them because both Barb and I really like TT. Got three in the freezer right now.

Just bought a 5.44 lb Choice Ribeye Roast (2 bones) for $24.32 at Von's. Christmas dinner is going to be good.
