Cold Weather Grilling - It's right around the corner...

If it hasn't started already where you live........

It officially started here today since the veggie garden gave up the ghost last night. Normally our garden doesn't succumb to frost until the last week of Oct, so this comes two weeks early.

It's now cold weather grilling season here. Not really ready for this, though I had a feeling it was coming early since I ordered a new head lamp last week from Amazon in anticipation of this.

Just make sure you're stocked up on "antifreeze"

Thanks Bob for reminding me about stocking up on antifreeze. I always make sure in the winter I have adequate amounts of the stuff. That's so I can look out the window at my eight Weber's that are up to there grill grates in snow. I then take a sip and say "ain't goin out there lets order a pizza Barb" The antifreeze just kind of takes the pain away from saying that.

It was snowing snowballs there Rolf! :p

Looks like we'll tie a record high today at 90F set in 1899.
High in the 60's tomorrow.

I know what you guys are talking about and I grilled in the snow but my grandson says we only have 2 seasons here - summer and cooler summer. :wsm: Smoked a fattie this afternoon and the coolest temp while I cooked was 85°. I don't miss winter up north.

Glad I built a 18x28 carport and sided the west and south sides, nice and dry and cold can be dealt with with anti freeze or heaters ;)

So...we don't get much snow here on the Big Deck in N AL. Therefore, we don't pay the taxes required to maintain heavy snow plows and mountains of salt/sand etc. required to clear the roads. The result is when it snows or ices the roads, businesses, and schools close. Of course, the local brew house stays wide open. :) Well, when the weather gives you lemons you make lemonade. In my case that's firing up the WSM.

When the need to grill or smoke hits, the itch must be scratched! I've grilled in -20 degree weather and at 104. I prefer somewhere in the middle.

It was 80 degrees here today, very nice for October 20th in Northern Illinois. When winter gets too rough I just grill or Q in the
woodburning fireplace.

We are enjoying pretty much the same weather pattern Bob.
It was 74 at noon and dropping through 70 and looking at cooler weather for the rest of the week. Then it will deteriorate rapidly. It’s been a grand October!

Typical California weather for October.... Looks to be in the low to high 80's for the next week or two.

It has turned a bit chilly around here. The other day, using my 18.5” WSM, I smoked two 8 lb. bone in Boston Butts. When I started, it was 24 degrees. When I finished 10 hrs. later, it was in the 30’s. The WSM hardly knew the difference. After I put the meat on, I touched nothing for six hours and it held steady. Then, the wind dame up, and I had to change a couple of vents a couple of times. By the way, I LOVE the SMOKE remote thermometer. I kind of felt like I was cheating the cook went so well. My wife Marilyn pulled the pork. It DEFINITELY met our quality standards.

Keep on smokin’,

I grill more in the summer and smoke more in the winter, just because I don't have to stand outside and deal with constantly flipping things.
I have two of my younger Son's that like to man up and deal with that.

Tim
