Hello all,
thanks for you help.
I spent about 6 hours and got my silver c looking pretty good.
Sorry but the links will not post to pics.

I used the lid and fire box from a donor along with the left hand tables.
I painted my frame and the donor fire box and end caps.
Replaced with the rc stainless flavor bars and new burners.
I need a new grate.. but used my cleaned up stainless ones with spirit cast iron grates for now.

Started with the old C

Cleaned and wire brushed and took a left side section of frame from the donor

thanks for everyone who helped with this build.
The only thing I need to do is polish it up a bit more and replace the rear tires and axle with the nicer ones from the donor.
Of course I want a right side table as well :)

thanks Kevin

Man that thing cleaned up nicely. How did you do the gray end caps.

The left side I used the donor end caps that were in good shape and just used a bit of simple green, steel wool and paper towels.
Getting the old left side end cap out caused me to break the old one off as it was seized up in the tube and pull out a section of the rusted frame.
So I had to cut a section off the donor frame reattach and then slide in the new end cap.

Due to the drama on the left side, I did not change the right side out and will leave it alone I can find a new end cap/right side table.
I just simple greened, steel wooled it and masked it when I painted it.

... changing out something so simple turned into a big pain.

You do know your grates are upside down in the photo?

Yes.

I have read a few blogs/articles about the "right way" the grates are to be.
So yes... I know weber recommends fat side up.... Not sure I always want fat side up depending on what I am cooking.

thanks Kevin

I have it flipped on the thin side also. Good job with the refub.

Kevin, I have had that same problem. I am working on a grill now that I had to steal one from for that same reason. Since this current grill is light one end cap, I had to find yet another donor grill, which I did and nearly destroyed that trying to get it off. I had to cut the frame and then cut the frame off of the end cap with an angle grinder and cutting wheel. I have no idea why a plastic end cap would seize inside the frame like that. Sure, there was rust, but I don't know how that would affect the plastic like that.

That discussion is about cast iron grates which yours are not. Yours are the stamped steel and they are upside down. The CI can be used effectively either way. The stamped are not
