18.5 WSM IN SS performer cart

Been wanting to add either my 18 or 22 WSM to a SS performer cart for some time. Missed out on a couple of CL deals and what I thought was a sure thing a couple years ago from a "buddy". Anyway a few months ago one of my coworkers decided on a new performer to replace his 22 year old SS. He new I wanted to cart but really didn't want to part with the kettle since it still worked and could be used at work for BBQs. I told him if he gave me the works I would make sure we had a kettle to use at work.

Luckily I have a bunch of spare parts left over from my mini ranch build and my 22" jumbo Joe build. Was able to build a pretty nice set up. Basically a master touch setting on 26" kettle legs. No on to the cart project...

After 22 years the cart was Pretty well rusted. In fact the bottom supports were rusted so bad that the bolt holders embedded in the frame piece broke when I tried to remove the bolts. Took. The whole thing apart and sanded every piece, filled the cancer and then painted. SS was in decent shape and it cleaned up nice with some mother polish and a lot of elbow grease. Had to order the front casters since the old ones wouldn't turn. Any way here is the almost finished product.

Right now I have some wood boards down so the legs have a place to set. I have some sheet aluminum and just need to get it cut to the right size. Also plan to use the SS top for when I use the 14 WSM, so I am Working on a hid holder for it.

Originally when I planned on doing this project the CB door would have been at the back of the cart. Last year I installed the unknown BBQ hinge so having the door at the back won't work due to the location of the hinge. Right now I have it set up to where the lid opens at a 45° angle if your standing in front. This allows the hinge to be over a leg for stability and still be functional. Cooked 5 tri-tips last weekend and I didn't mind it opening that way and still had access to the table top. Even though the door is in the half circle part of the table I can still unlock and bring to door up if I need to access.

Still have a few this to do to finish it but I am real happy with how it turned out and how well it functioned.

Very nice cart.
I did something similar. I used a genesis 1000 frame and added an extension for my 18.5 WSM. It also servers as a stand for my Jumbo Joe. Used a side burner for a charcoal lighter.
Would have like to have used a SS performer but around here they go for mostly north of $100. and I had the 1000 cart already.
