Need some advise.
Planning to do a whole (split) chicken and a rack of ribs.
Last time the ribs took about 5 hours, haven't done chicken yet.

Im thinking of getting the ribs on 3 hours before and then put the chicken on the button rack (not sure if they fit on the top with the rib rack but maybe..

Any thoughts? Someone done this before?

Your idea should work. A couple of things to remember;
1. The item on the lower rack will get some "drippings" from the upper rack. This addition of favors can be good or bad. For example l love to put a pot of beans under ribs when I smoke them.
2. If the ribs get done first, which is what I would plan for, they can be foiled and placed in a warm cooler to wait for the chicken to finish.
3. Enjoy the challenge and learning experience that is part of the fun of BBQ.

I did wings under ribs last weekend, loved the flavor but not the texture. I finished them on my gasser but that still didn't crisp them up / render the fat under the skin.
