What has been your maximum pork butt payload on your WSM's ?

Just added a 22 and was hoping to get 6-8 in there and smoked nicely.


Would love to see some of your largest cooks on yours.
 
I did 4 on my 18.5. Two of them weighed 9.4 lbs. two at 8.5 lbs. Total weight 35 lbs, trimmed. I haven't maxed out the 22 so I don't have a number but 6 large butts would be no problem.
 
IMO 6 butts on a 22 should be no problem. I have done 3 8lb butts on my 18 just on the top rack. The trick is to stand them on their end (vice laying them flat on long side) and kind of form a teepee. So I'd think 3 per rack on a 22 should be pretty comfortable. 8 I am not sure, but you could always add a 3rd rack without too much work.

I have done 6 8-10# shoulders on a 22 with little to no issues. Cook at a higher temp than you normally would as it takes close to 15 hours for that many. You could do 8 but they will touch and hang over the edges cause smoke to not penetrate as well and soggy bark the areas touching and over cooking the areas that over hang. Once they hit 160-170 I foil and switch them top to bottom. If you are using smaller butts/shoulders 8 will be no problem.
 
I've done eight 8 pounders twice. Both for BBQ fundraisers.

Guess if you got one of those Cajun Bandit Stackers you could do a dozen.
