New-to-me 2005 Genesis Silver A

Hi, everyone.

I was a lurker as of this past Saturday and then yesterday I found a Silver A on CL for $40 from a guy who was gifted a brand new grill.

It needs consumables such as the crossover tube (I opted to order brand a brand new burner assembly instead), igniter, drip pan, flavorizer bars etc etc. The good news is that it came with the cast iron grates that should clean up well, and the rest of the grill is structurally very solid.

Thanks to this forum, I became aware of the eBay ones from rcplanebuyer so those are en route.

The ad pic is here:

Right after I brought it home and cleaned it out a bit w/ the pressure washer:

The cast iron grates:

Lastly... there is no model number/serial number anywhere on the grill and I could use some help identifying the part number for the secondary bracket for the propane tank that appears to be missing:

It's a 2005 Genesis Silver A LP Blk SWE (Stop Watch Engineering) and it's probably model #6711001, or if it came with those cast iron grates, it's possibly model #6711411. Only real difference between those two model numbers are the grates and perhaps the FBs.

Here's links to schematics for both.

The bracket you are looking for is sold separately. It's the "tank scale lock bracket" and is part #92177. You'll need a 1/4 - 20 Wingnut for it as well. It's part #87901. Weber might have both in stock, if not, here are some links at Ereplacement.

Lock Bracket

Wingnut

FWIW, I've been missing that bracket on a couple of my Genny's for years and it hasn't been an issue. Certainly not worth it to me to spend $10 or more (with shipping) to replace it.

DaveW, thank you so much for your information.

I will update this thread as I make progress on the repairs.

I didnt see any flavorizer bars in the grill and no mention of them. Did you replace them or are the originals still good.
That grill will clean up really nice. Look for some rust and crap on the bottom panel inside.

That is a good grill. Here is one that looks very similar to yours. Mine is a 2007 Spirit Silver A E210.

It looked like the flavorizer bars had been missing for years.

New stainless flavorizer bars from rcplanebuyer are on route.

Hahaha, probably been grilling like that for years. The grill pictured above had 4 pieces of angle iron in place of the 5 flavo bars when I got it. :)

And here was the cooking grate that was in it?

Looks like you're on your way to a nice grill.
I really do scratch my head when I see these. Who owns a grill like that that is that dirty and eats the food cooked on it?

Even assuming the food is cooked at a high temperature and that the grill is "clean" inside in that it isn't dirt on the grates, I still find the filth all over concerning

I notice some of the Genesis Silvers have that Pocket on the front right and others have another table. Anyone know the difference?

The year they were produced. This one was easy to peg down as it was only available for 1 year with the enclosed cart and the condiment rack on the right

Did you replace the flavorizer bars? I'm curious about using angle iron for those ....

You know what, if there had been 5 of them, I probably would have at least tried them out. But, since there were only 4 and since I have never used a Weber grill like this, I wasn't confident in whether I could tell if they were working OK or not. So, I replaced them. I refurbed it for resale anyway and figured that having a redneck set of flavo bars would detract too much from the resale value...maybe, maybe not. Anyway, I still have the 4 and it wouldn't be that hard or expensive to make a fifth. It would be nice to know if it would be a viable alternative to the standard bars which cost 5x as much as a few feet of angle iron.
Probably the biggest difference would be that it would take longer for the grill to heat up as the angle iron is about 4 or 5 times as thick as the standard bars. I am not sure how long they would last being regular steel, but I would think they would hold up quite a while since they are thicker.

The hack job grill grate is definitely a no-go however. I can't believe anyone would try to grill on that thing. :)

Thanks I was really curious about the angle iron! And yes, I wouldn't want a keeper grill, or even a resale one, with those grates! Looks like the last act of a desperate grill!

Agreed. If you look at the one photo of the angle iron, notice how they tried to patch holes in the burner tubes with metal tied in place with wire. They had that on both burners as well as the crossover tube...
I started the grill when I got it home and it lit up but was a total crap show of flames.

It made me wonder how their last few BBQ's turned out. hahaha

I'd say well done, but I must admit in my past I have been a tin foil repairman. Suppose with age does come wisdom. Funny how that works!

That's interesting, I always through that condiment rack meant it was a Spirit as i've seen so many of them with Spirit written on them. Now i know, older Genesis Grill(2005 only?) can have them also.

I removed the firebox from the frame today. There are zero issues with the frame and even the screws on the right that don't need to come off came off with minimal resistance.

I'm degreasing it overnight. Here's a quick peek:
