Anyone tried this?

The valves in the disposable tanks will leak after the first use a lot of times,I decided too much of a fire hazard to refill and bought a hose that I can hook to any thing that uses small tanks to a 20lbs or larger tank.

I wanted to keep 4 to 6 1# cylinders around because I have a heater that uses them that travels in the RV.
So refilling them seemed to be a good idea.

Home Depot sells the refillable cylinder for $10. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Flame-King-1-lb-Refillable-Propane-Cylinder-YSN164CYL/300488857
So does Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B01DCWJYYK/tvwb-20

However, an initial outlay of $40 to $60 (they are sold empty) seems a bit rich to me. Would take several years to break even.

I suppose that if you had only one refillable cylinder & refilled it as needed, it might be an ok deal.
However, if you go that route, why not just use the HF valve & attach the cylinder immediately after filling - doubt if leakage would then be a problem.

I bought an adapter to refill the small bottles from a 20# tank, really was a pain to do and it didn't completely fill the small bottle. So I bought the hose adapter that lets me attach a 20# tank to the performer. This June it will be the start of year three on the 1st tank and it's still about half full. Much cheaper way to go.

I did exactly the same. PIA to fill the little bottles. 20# tanks last forever on the Performer.

Always been on the hunt for a cheap used 5 lb propane tank like they had on the older performers. I always figured I'd find a way to retrofit it into the charcoal bin holder with a line extension or some other safe spot on the grill. . Buying those tanks new it's like 50 dollars and also the 20 bucks for the propane hose extension(wich I already have for a Go Anywhere). Much more convenient than this bottle filler
