Peeled tri-tip

Prime Tri Tip? I've never seen it. Wegman's carries Choice locally for $10.99/lb. Crazy expensive, but it is certified Angus and I will say it has wonderful marbling and flavor. Trader Joe's is about half that price, but I've always felt what I got there was tough and chewy.

Tri tip is rarely available in much of the country, be it Select, Choice, or Prime.
I can get Choice for $5/lb not on sale, $4/lb on sale.
I've cooked all three grades and honestly can't tell much, if any, difference between the three.
Grilled a Choice one yesterday, and marbling was as much as I've seen on some Primes.

We get choice tri tip at Earth fare for $6.99 a pound usually. Unfortunately, it's trimmed. But it's SOOOOO much better than what we used to get at TJs!

Peeled/trimmed is good in my book since the fat adds nothing, unless one eats it too.
Plus the actual meat part can be seasoned and seared on all sides.

Out here buying Tri-Tip is like buying bread ever one carry's it...Thanks for all that responded. I pay 2.99 - 3.99 for choice... 4.99 for veal Tri - Tip and 5.25 a pound for USDA Prime Tri- Tip. This is at a meat packing plant about a mile from àre house. Haven't shopped at Costco for years now just not economical for the two of us since it would be a 80 mile round trip. Thanks again guys

Costco near here stopped carrying it. Local butcher is $7.25 LB, higher than the out west, but my only source.
