Vortex vs. whole bird question

Hi gang. Just a couple days ago I asked a couple questions regarding the Vortex on wings, which yielded spectacular results last night; I had nearly given-up on the notion of crispy skin. As a second meat alternative for Sunday I'm going to do a whole chicken. I can do an experimental run on Friday but it would be nice to do this trial run based on your expertise. The Vortex manual suggests an inverted-bowl beer can method. Can I ask some of you to offer suggestions based on your experiences? I have provision for using Genesis e-330 with/without mediocre spinner, WSM 14 or 22, or Vortex on Kettle. Thanks for any feedback!
