The only Weber charcoal grills that have a serial number are the performers with gas assist.
 
The lid vent has a serial number stamped on it for some newer kettles-my two year old 26er has one, for example. I think Weber also refers to the two letter date code on the vent as a serial number for warranty purposes.

How To Determine The Age Of Weber Smokers

Prior to 1979, there were no serial numbers or date markings on kettles; grill features and wording stamped into the top vent damper is used to estimate age. Starting in 1979, an alphabetic code stamped into the top vent damper denotes the year of manufacture. Then in 2013, Weber started laser engraving a serial number into the top vent damper.
