"Haze" removal from kettle lid

I just picked up a CL 26.5 & it has a "haze" or "scuff" in several places on the lid.
I'm not sure what caused it. It appears to be many fine scratches.
Figured it would clean up easily. It won't.

I've tried steel wool, rubbing compound & etc. My last attempt was steel wool & chrome polish.
That helped a lot - at least I cannot "feel" the difference in the surface.
However, I can't get the areas to polish & blend with the surrounding porcelain.

Any Ideas on how to fix this?

I suppose I could live with the blemishes, but would rather not.

Robert - I've got a '92 redhead that has faded and a younger standard issue black that has the haze. The haze I've used windex and steel wool and it looks like new. For the old redhead, nothing works...I've tried everything with no luck. Not sure if that helps, but I think there is a difference between the haze and a truly faded lid.

Nothing I tried worked to restore any luster to this 26'r, in fact I was afraid of doing any more harm to the finish that has grease stains and road rash.

Since I sold this one, I've seen similar pics of the same type of "rash" on the older 26'rs. Just roll with it.
