I just recently bought a WSM 18.5 and the main issue I was having was I had no place to hold the lid. I saw some ideas on the modifications page, but I really didn't want to start drilling holes into my new smoker or sitting it on the ground. I work in a machine shop so I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone and made some handles that can also hold the lid. I used 304 SS so no rust issues. The handles are all one piece with the threads the same length as the manufacturers bolts.
The only problem I ran into was when the lid hung off of the handle, the lid would hit one of the bolts and potentially scratch the dome. I made a piece out of teflon to prevent the scratching. Even though the pictures show the lid hanging off of the right, I have moved it onto the left side due to my temp. probe wires being so close and not having room.
It's easy to lift the middle chamber off now.
