Weber Jumbo Joe 22" Premium Charcoal Grill

Rusty James;
I may have heard about this some time ago, but I cannot be sure. However, my standard 18" Jumbo Joe sure does have the charcoal grate closer to the food grate and I DO find that an advantage. I have high regard for the Jumbo Joe for both direct and indirect. It is a FINE grill, especially when one considers the price point. I use mine quite a bit when I do a small cook.

From the picture, I would suspect that the 22" would have to same advantages?

I have the standard JJ and our Walmart had a JJ premium on clearance for $33. The JJ is a great grill and Barb and I use it a lot. If you would need the space it may be worth it as it's $20 cheaper than a 22 Silver. I wanted the standard 18 because with just the two of us it's the perfect size for quick cooks direct or indirect and I use my saved charcoal from the performers or WSMs to fuel it, works perfect.
As far as the grate clearance the JJ is quite a bit shallower than a regular kettle in the 18 size, don't know about the 22, just looking at it I would say it's shallower than a 22 kettle.

I'm a BIG 18 JJ fan! Same as Rich, grate for direct/indirect for two peeps.
I did 2 x 1.5" rump steaks tonight, indirect then sear over the vortex......beautiful.

I had this BBQ, and I only thought it to be so so at best. I did some decent cooks on it, but it's somewhat lacking. Wobbly

You mileage may vary

I looked at the grill in Walmart about a month ago. Not real impressed. The metal for the lid and bowl seems thinner than that used for the standard kettles. Don't even get me started on the quality of the grate that comes with that grill. If I were to buy one, the first thing I'd do would be to replace that grate with the hinged model.

A better option would be to spend the additional $30 and get a new OTS or get one off CL.

I remember the grill now (from last year), and I thought it was specially made for Walmart, at the time, considering how it was missing the ash sweeper, but I guess I was wrong. Shows you how ignorant I was about Weber products. I only wish I would have purchased a kettle grill years sooner.

Some stores are marking their Weber inventory down by 50%. I wonder if they have one of these left.

Yeah we've got these in Europe too, over here they call the the "Compact Kettles" , they are usually sold in DIY stores.

I've seen a 18" in the flesh in a shop recently an I concur with Rusty, seems much less robustly built than the normal One Touch seriie and just a cheap looking grill, the bolted legs would probably give in first!

-Also I don't really understand the positioning of these grills in the range, surely if you want portability and a compact grill you'd go for a GA, a Smokey Joe of a Jumbo Joe, if it's about getting a full size grill, you might as well get a OTS with better built quality and airflow, just my 2 cents.

These are not made here in the US, this is a special brand for Walfart and it's not the same thickness as a regular kettle from weber. Spend the extra 30 bucks and get a silver.

Thanks much, Garvin.

Didn't know these were made abroad.
