Slap Yo Daddy Review of Hunsaker Smokers Vortex Firebasket

Any thoughts on how wide the spacing on the charcoal grate? Seems wide to me. Maybe add a cross grate or expanded metal?,

I just measured: .633" (5/8"), or 16.08mm between them. Seems about right to me.

Mine came today, not sure when I'll get the chance to use it.

I cooked a spiral sliced ham today, this thing seems like it'll definitely be good for hot & fast cooks, probably decent on the low/slow too.

This completely takes the place of the fire grate in the 18" wsm - this sits where the normal fire grate would be, and seals off the bottom. It's just below the bottom 3 vents so they're fully functional.

I don't think I'll bother seasoning it:

I had been using the Hunsaker plate over my stock charcoal chamber in my 18.5" WSM and loved it. My bil bought the basket for his modded ECB and it didn't fit, so I swapped him my plate and charcoal chamber for the basket. Haven't used it yet but it sits a lot higher than the charcoal chamber so I'm wondering about cooking on the bottom cooking grate. Anybody have experience with this? Can't wait to use it.

How is this working out? I read a lot about it working well for HH, How about low and slow? I use an Auber Temp Control

Works great with low & slow. As I posted above, I used to have the plate only over my stock charcoal chamber; now, I have the complete basket. It works great and holds more charcoal, but sits higher. I thought the plate/stock charcoal chamber worked really well and was cheaper. Worth the money either way.
